Merri-bek artmaking workshops and exhibition

The Shed is teaming up with some amazing practitioners to create a community exhibition, Making our Mark in Merri-bek.

Merri-bek (colonial name: Moreland) is a hub for LGBTIQA+ arts. We are running two sets of workshops for trans and gender diverse folks in Merri-bek and beyond: Drawing our trans* bodies with Queers Draw This and Representations of Us with ArtKind.

Participant-artists will explore drawing and painting in a peer supported space to produce works on paper and canvas that we will share with the wider community in a dazzling display of trans awesomeness. The exhibition will open in LGBT history month, on Sunday October 16 at Newlands Neighbourhood House, 20 Murray Rd Coburg North. This event day will be a celebration of trans bodies, experiences and ideas. Come for the art, tunes, snacks and a trans makers market. We’ll be there all afternoon: https://www.necchi.org/locations-access

Public transport: Buses run every 20 minutes between Coburg and Preston stations (Upfield and Mernda lines); or free parking for cars and bikes.

Making our Mark in Merri-bek will close in the first week of November, just in time for The Shed’s Yarra exhibition, Euphoria, so you can bliss out on the creativity of our communities all spring.

We acknowledge that the work for this project is taking place on unceded Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung lands. May the name, Merri-bek, meaning Rocky Country, be a call to all who have migrated to these lands to honour the traditional owners and remember this living history.

to Elders past and present. We also pay our respects to the First Nations members of The Shed,
and to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who may be reading this.

Sovereignty was never ceded.
