You can volunteer at any time, with whatever skills and interests you have. The time commitment and type of tasks are fully up to you. We will help support you if there's something you'd like to do but need help to learn how!

We run two online organising meetings a month:

• Committee meeting (first Monday of the month) 6:30 - 8pm

• Co-working meeting (second Monday of the month) 6:30-8pm

During our meetings we organise:

• Planning and running our monthly peer support meetings

• Planning attendance at events like Pride, Midsumma, Chill Out festival etc

• Running our binder programme

• Applying for grants and funding

• Running community activities and socials

• Supporting trans people to run their own projects

• Running our website, online shop and newsletter

• Managing and moderating our Facebook group

• Doing all the necessary admin to keep our group going, like paying insurance, and submitting our financial records to Consumer Affairs Victoria

The time commitment is to attend a monthly meeting that runs for 1.5 hours. Any time over that depends on what you'd like to help with and how much time and availability you have.

• Optional monthly committee meetings to plan and discuss upcoming Shed events and projects from 6:30-8:00pm on (usually) the first Monday of the month

• Optional co-working sessions on the second Monday of the month, where you can complete tasks you've put your hand up for together with other volunteers

• Access to volunteer discussion channels, where you can ask questions and collaborate between meetings (we use Discord for this - and can train you on this if you need)

• ​​Respect and compassion for different lived experiences, expressions and understandings of gender

• Respectful communication and assumed good intent when dealing with others

• Self management and open communication on your availability to commit to tasks

• Acceptance of other people's limits and changing capacities

• A willingness to learn and be open to new knowledge and experiences

• A willingness to use The Shed's communication and organising tools

• Responsible use of The Shed's tools and systems

• Treating all personal information with confidentiality

Every year at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), members of The Shed vote for the organising committee for the following year.

The elected committee forms the core of the volunteer group, and each person has a defined role for the year they are serving on committee.

To nominate to join the committee you need to:

1. Come along to our AGM, held in February every year

2. Join The Shed as a voting member

3. Fill in a nomination form
