Conditions of application

  • Artists must identify as transgender or gender diverse, including binary, non-binary, genderqueer, genderfluid, brotherboy, sistergirl, and all other non-cisgender experiences of gender.

  • Entries from all levels of experience are welcome.

  • All entries will be exhibited at Harehole Fitzroy, for the duration of the exhibition. The official title will be “Euphoria: An exhibition celebrating Trans Joy”. Entries will also be included in an online video exhibition which may be available online beyond the exhibition closing date via The Shed’s website.

  • Artworks need to answer the theme of “Trans Joy”.  Exhibition organisers have the right to refuse a work if absolutely necessary - any decision to refuse a work will not be taken lightly, however this right is reserved for the purpose of supporting and protecting our community.

  • It is the artist's responsibility to ensure their artwork does not infringe on copyright. Copyright or licensing of each artwork must belong to the artist.

  • Commission on all artwork sales of 20% applies. This includes GST. The Commission goes to the venue and includes packing works and organising shipping for the buyer.

  • While we take the utmost care of artwork, Harehole, The Shed, and the Exhibition Organisers take no responsibility for theft, loss or damage of artwork. Artists may choose to purchase their own insurance.

  • There is no charge to enter the exhibition.

How to submit

  • To formally submit works for the exhibition, please complete the submission form. (This form is now closed)

  • The submission form is used to ensure that all details relating to your work are correct and accurate as supplied by the artist.

  • Maximum of 2 artworks per entrant. There is no limit on the quantity of sales for prints, e.g. a print can be sold multiple times and is still considered to be one artwork.

  • This information is used strictly only by The Shed for the purpose of the Euphoria Exhibition celebrating Trans Joy and will not be passed on to any third parties or used for any other purpose.

  • We request that information is correct and accurate upon filling out your Submission Form, however if you need to edit or amend any information you can get in touch by contacting us using our online form

  • No amendments to any artwork information will be available after 16 October 2022 to allow the team enough time to print artwork labels.

  • The artwork does not need to be ready for exhibition by the final date of entry deadline. The deadline is for entering the prize show only, and works will only need to be fully completed and exhibition ready (see below for what we consider ‘ready to hang’) by the Artwork Drop Off dates.

Artwork specifications

  • Please keep artwork dimensions within the size that’s been provided to the organising team, so that we can make sure everyone who has been offered a space in the exhibition is able to have space.  If your work will be much larger than agreed, please let us know so that we can check if we can still accommodate the work.

  • Artists can enter multiple works (such as a diptych or triptych) as a single work.

  • Artists will be given a unique code to add to the back of their work for purposes of being able to collect unsold work - this is in case the artist is unable to show photo ID with a name that they are comfortable with. Your unique code will be provided by the organising team in the weeks before the exhibition.

  • The artist's name, title of the work, and unique code MUST be written on the back of the work itself for clear identification.

  • For digital works, please provide the required details (artist name, work name and unique code) on a separate piece of paper, attached to your storage device.

Delivery of artwork

  • Delivering in person, by post, or courier: Artwork must arrive between Monday 24 October - Sunday 30 October during Harehole opening hours (currently 12 noon-5pm Sunday - Friday, 11am - 6pm Saturday)

  • If artwork is not delivered by these dates, we can not guarantee we can hang your artwork.

  • Delivery costs are at the expense of the artist.

  • All artwork must arrive at the gallery ready to hang (see more details below).

  • When you drop off your artwork, please speak with staff so they can check you off the list and we can keep track of incoming artwork.

  • Please make sure your artwork is labelled before you arrive.

  • We recommend a light layer of bubble wrap left on your artwork for drop off so they are protected while we prepare the exhibition.

Requirements for hanging

  • Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang which includes framed works with wire, d-rings or sawtooth fixtures on the back to hang, or works on paper that can be pinned through/have adhesive tabs affixed to them.

  • We can not accept works that we deem not “ready to hang”. This includes:

    • Paintings that are not wholly dry on the drop off day. There is no suitable space at the venue for drying works in the lead up to install.

    • Works using unsuitable materials to hang, such as string, double-sided tape or no hanging mechanism at all.

    • Frames that we believe will not stand to be hung for the duration of the exhibition.

    • Artworks that when installed may cause damage to other artworks.

  • Works relying on double-sided tape or 3M fasteners for their installation. Double sided tape will not be accepted for installation as changes in humidity cause it to lose its adhesive qualities, resulting in artwork damage.

  • All framed artworks must be professionally framed, with wire or d-rings attached for hanging.

  • All unframed works will be pinned through unless alternative tabs are supplied in advance. If you would prefer your work be pinned through tabs, the artist is responsible for providing and preparing works for such installation before drop off.

  • Works on canvas will be hung via their stretcher frames where appropriate.

Collection and return of work

  • Unsold works must be collected between 1 December - 7 December from Harehole during opening hours.

  • Uncollected works will be stored for a short period of time, any works not collected for more than 30 days will be considered abandoned and forfeited.

  • To collect your artwork you must provide EITHER photo ID OR your unique code that the art team will give you in the weeks before the exhibition.  You can arrange for someone else to collect on your behalf, please ensure they have your unique code.  For the safety of your work, please don’t give your unique code to anyone unless you are happy for them to collect your work.

  • We recommend you bring any packing or protection materials you need to transport your work. We will try to hold on to packing materials provided, but cannot guarantee this.

  • Interstate and remote artists: Unsold works can be sent back to artists via courier at the artist's expense. Please let us know if you’d like to take up this option before the end of the exhibition and we will follow up a courier to send you a quote.

Sale of artwork

  • 20% commission on artwork sales applies. This includes GST where applicable.

  • In the event of a sale, the bank details supplied on your entry form will be used for payment of sales.

  • It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure bank details are correct at time of entry.

  • Artist Settlements are prepared and finalised up to 30 days after the exhibition's end.

  • Your artwork does not need to be available for sale. When prompted to put a price in the Artwork Details section of the entry form, simply put NFS (Not For Sale).

Insurance

While we take the utmost care of artwork, Harehole, The Shed, and the Exhibition Organisers take no responsibility for theft, loss or damage of artwork. Artists may choose to purchase their own insurance.
